An unexpected expat blogger behind KernelTundraBreeze

Hi, I’m João
I'm a project manager, a parent, and an expat living in Porto, Portugal.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually became a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Began
Moving to Portugal wasn’t part of the long-term plan. Like many expat moves, it started with a work opportunity and soon grew into something far bigger.
The initial months were tough — new systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks seemed more complicated than they should.
The Adjustment Phase
Culture shock, doubt, and plenty of hands-on learning accompanied us. Gradually, routines settled in. We found spots that suited us, connected with other families, and began to create something that felt secure.
Why I Created KernelTundraBreeze
Most online information leaned toward corporate relocation tips or shallow tourism content. What was missing was a genuine, everyday family viewpoint.
This site exists to bridge that gap — practical guidance drawn from real life in Portugal.
What This Site Does (And Doesn't)
This site is:
- Hands-on experience from living in Portugal
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated when something truly changes
This site isn't:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- Not a sponsored review platform
- Not a generic travel blog
Moving Forward
Our time in Portugal continues, and so does the learning process. As long as the information remains useful, I will continue documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Porto or anywhere in Portugal, feel free to contact me.
Best regards,
João
